Privacy

Last updated:

Welcome to the stage-6.io apps - a collection of local-first apps for your day-to-day use. I wrote this privacy policy myself, and it covers all that you need to know when using the apps. The apps are free, and they respect your privacy.

Local-first - your data stays on your machine

  • The apps store your data on your machine. You can export and back up your data manually. Currently, I also give the free option to sync with your Dropbox for convenience. An added benefit of using Dropbox is that your data will be synced with your other devices.
  • If you choose to use Dropbox for sync, Dropbox's own privacy policy should be useful for you: Dropbox Privacy Policy.
  • By default, your data never leaves your machine. I recommend backing it up in one way or another: the apps can export it, in addition to syncing it to the cloud (currently - Dropbox).

Usage Analytics

While I understand the concern for privacy, I would still like to know how people use my apps. You can turn the analytics collection on or off in the launcher, under "Usage Analytics".

You are more than welcome not to allow me to collect that data, but I would greatly appreciate it if you would. I do not sell it to anybody: it's for my use only. I use Umami as my analytics provider. It sets no cookies, and it tracks anonymized data. Read their privacy policy here: Umami.

I use analytics to answer questions such as:

  • "How many people use my app?"
  • "Do people like my app?"
  • "If someone chose to use it - how much do they use it?"
  • "How much did I mess up, and what kind of errors do users get?"
  • "This does not work - should I take up carpentry instead?"

Each report also has the time, the site's address, the app, how many weeks this browser has used it, and whether the device has a touch screen. My reports never contain what you write or search for, or the page's address (it can hold a note's title). Umami works out your country and city from your IP address, and your browser and system from its user agent. From your IP address and browser, it also works out a visitor id that changes every month and a visit id that changes every hour. Its stats don't keep the IP address.

Server logs

My web server logs a connection and its IP address only when something goes wrong with it, so I can find and fix connection problems. These logs are deleted automatically after 14 days.

Cookies

  • I use no tracking cookies. Period. No Ad Tracking, no selling of information, no dealing with shady information brokers, and no other bs.
  • The apps have to store your data in the browser. Otherwise, everything you do would be stored in thin air - and because thin air is not a useful storage medium, I use browser storage instead.

Cookies

The stage-6.io apps store your data in the browser: essential cookies are, well, essential to maintain basic functionality.

Additionally, I would greatly appreciate it if you would allow me to track analytics data. The data is for my personal use only, to track user engagement.
